Sally from work is a gem. Her parents split when she was eight, and good job too, she thinks. Her Mum’s been with another guy now for years, very stable. So Sally is shocked to learn recently that her Dad, for all the fighting, is her Mum’s real love. I postulate that love is a trick of nature, a very good trick, for the sake of procreation. For example, in her parents’ case, it worked.

I guess Sally is twenty six maybe. Her boyfriend has an anger problem, she says. And his dad too. Runs in the family. I say anger and frustration are two different things. How do I know? Because I smacked somebody onetime, and it felt good and clean. She says men are not good talkers, they clam up when they have a problem. I say that’s a man’s way. I should know.
