Mister World

in the rain, in the dark
in the back of my heart
i got one shiny coin to my name

that i’m poor i know is true
but i’m spending it on you
& i know you won’t turn me away

we were walking on the hill
me, lydia & phil
& we stood there awhile looking out

at the houses in their streets
& the clouds all marching east
they must wonder what the fuss is all about

cos you’re so beautiful mister world

on an upstairs balcony
table, chair above the street

is a guy, 23
lost in some crime novel when

he looks up from the page
& like the stars in the day
a world he’s not set eyes on before

the power lines & hills
a myriad angles
dance naked, shy hand in hand, for

you’re so beautiful mister world
